My Printmaking

During the past few years I predominantly used printmaking as my medium and my work often depicts the South Downs, river Adur and local woodland. I print with various methods, I embrace the traditional printmaking technique as well as digital platforms. I am captivated by the marks that are made from the real objects and the versatility of printmaking. My most used techniques are combining Collagraph with Mono printing. I use Collagraph to create a texture plate, and a Mono plate is used for background colours which gives a sense of space. I also like to print directly with plants, which allows me to capture the essence of and immortalise the real object. Since the lock down I have been using monotype printing , directly moving ink across the plate to capture the atmosphere of the woodland. My subject matter is about the Woodland and how it made me feel. This feeling stems from my childhood memories, my love of trees and the time I spent in the mountains.

“What inspire me the most? I love woodland and trees, like common weeds and grasses. I admire the way they survive between gaps and the most unexpected places, celebrating their strength and beauty. I relate that to human’s resilience”

— Peon Boyle

My work is about my relationship with nature, especially within the landscape around where I live, how nature provides us with space for healing, and it is about everyday life.

In the past I have worked with mix media, I made children’s clothing using nappy liner from my children’s washable nappy. I liked the delicate, fragile looking appearance in this material. I was drawn to how the light shone though the garment and the ghosty feeling it presented. It was like a fragment of thought or memories, existing and ethereal in the same time. I use printmaking most of time but I also paint, draw, and make installation.
